Running Clinics

It’s About More Than Running

There’s the running portion of our 6-week clinics which includes teaching the love of running and providing participants the foundation of technique and physical preparation to successfully complete a 5K run.  The six week curriculum is structured in 1 hour sessions combining a variety of track and non-track work to build cardiovascular endurance, speed, and strength.

Then there’s the portion where it’s about more than running.  It’s about how preparing for and competing in a 5K running event can help prepare our nation’s youth to successfully face the challenges they will encounter throughout their lives.  Each week includes a discussion topic from our “6 Keys in the Recipe to Overcome Adversity.  Derived from our founder, Jon Brianas, and his experience with cancer while playing lacrosse and serving as Team Captain of his U.S. Naval Academy lacrosse Team, this portion of the curriculum aims to inspire our nation’s youth to learn to OVERCOME challenges in life, DREAM about their true purpose, and SUCCEED with the help from their Team.

While not all National Youth 5K events have a running clinic yet our goal is for all of them to eventually have one once adequate support is established in each location.  One thing we do offer the schools participating in our School Series is the curriculum to host a clinic at the school.  This would be organized completely by the school, parents, or PE teachers and can be either a free or paid program if additional fundraising is a goal for the event.

For more information about our running clinics, how to get one established in your area or at your school please contact us at info@nationalyouth5k.com
